Huchuy Qosqo, Full day
Sacred valley Huchuy Qosqo hike B/L
Today’s full-day excursion is a highlight for those looking for a different Inka Trail hike away from the tourist crowds.
Itinerary
You will be picked up at your hotel and driven to Tauca Community, passing along Piuray Lake, where you will start your hike. You will cross the ‘Abra Tauca’ pass which is about 4,400 m.a.s.l., (14,435 ft) the highest point of the hike. You will continue downhill towards Huchuy Qosqo. After a short break, you will enjoy a brief tour of the fascinating archaeological site. Huchuy Qosqo is considered the third most important Inca site in the Sacred Valley after Ollantaytambo and Pisaq. Unlike most Inca buildings, clay bricks were used for roof construction. Set on a plateau and surrounded by Inca-style terraces, Huchuy Qosqo offers a spectacular setting and magnificent views of the Vilcabamba mountain range. Important: A good physical condition, as well as previous acclimatization, is required for this hike. Especially the last hour of the hike follows a sharp descent – make sure to pack comfortable hiking boots and if possible, walking sticks. We do not recommend this excursion for travelers with knee issues. A hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, water, and some light snacks are recommended.
